چکیده

Linear perspective is widely used in landscape photography to create the impression of depth on a 2D photo. Automated understanding of the use of linear perspective in landscape photography has a number of real-world applications, including aesthetics assessment, image retrieval, and on-site feedback for photo composition. We address this problem by detecting vanishing points and the associated line structures in photos. However, natural landscape scenes pose great technical challenges because there are often inadequate number of strong edges converging to the vanishing points. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a novel vanishing point detection method that exploits global structures in the scene via contour detection. We show that our method significantly outperforms state-ofthe-art methods on a public ground truth landscape image dataset that we have created. Based on the detection results, we further demonstrate how our approach to linear perspective understanding can be used to provide on-site guidance to amateur photographers on their work through a novel viewpoint-specific image retrieval system.

A New Approach for Vanishing Point Detection in Architectural Environments

A man-made environment is characterized by a lot of parallel lines and a lot of orthogonal edges. In this article, a new method for detecting the three mutual orthogonal directions of such an environment is presented. Since realtime performance is not necessary for architectural application, like building reconstruction, a computationally more intensive approach was chosen. On the other hand, o...

Integrated motion and geometry based obstacle detection in image sequences of tra c scenes

In this paper a robust method for visual motion estimation under ego{motion is developed. The possible application of this method is image sequence analysis of road tra c or airport runway/taxiway scenes, where the camera is located in a moving vehicle. The method combines an application independent estimation of visual motion with speci c methods for instantaneous detection of the vanishing po...

Vanishing point detection with convolutional neural networks

In a graphical perspective, a vanishing point (VP) is a 2D point (in the image plane) which is the intersection of parallel lines in the 3D world (but not parallel to the image plane). In other words, the vanishing point is the spot to which the receding parallel lines diminish. In principle, there can be more than one vanishing point in the image. VP can commonly be seen in fields, railroads, ...

Some new families of definite polynomials and the composition conjectures

The planar polynomial vector fields with a center at the origin can be written as an scalar differential equation, for example Abel equation. If the coefficients of an Abel equation satisfy the composition condition, then the Abel equation has a center at the origin. Also the composition condition is sufficient for vanishing the first order moments of the coefficients. The composition conjectur...
